RAYs played there first competitive match this past Saturday in blistering summer heat.
Ridgewood RAYs vs Parsipanny
Eagles Age 11 to 14
With only seven players and no bench, the team faced two games of 20 minute duration against a seasoned Parsipanny side. In the opening game, two tries by the home side, in as many minutes, took the visitors by surprise, but RAYs defense was found wanting and they ran out loosing 4-8 by the final whistle.
In the break, RAYs regrouped and reorganized. Good kickoffs kept the visitors pinned back at the restarts, and a combination of hard work and quick off loads in the tackle helped RAYs race to a 5-0 lead. A strong fight back by Parsipanny was resisted by better defense and at the final whistle RAYs were the deserving, and exhausted, winners by 8-4.
Congratulations to Erika, Corinne, Dan, Matthew, Jemma, Robert and Ryan of Ridgewood who all got on the scorecard in a great team effort!

Ridgewood RAYs to Host 1st Tournament
The Ridgewood RAYS will host Parsippany Youth Rugby of Morris County in their first ever flag rugby home tournament. The Parsippany Panthers directed by Carmine Catalano have participated as an American Flag Rugby Youth Program since the year 2000.
Water Coolers Needed - please bring coolers full of water & ice.
Oranges Needed - sliced for halftime for about 60 kids.
Bagels Needed - for the kids after games (this is a league tradition for the hosting team)
In the summers of 2000 and 2001, Carmine Catalano of Parsippany coached rugby while his kids were playing in the youth program in Montville. In 2002, Carmine started a youth rugby program in Parsippany. Carmine, who played a little rugby in college, was also a football coach in Parsippany and a member of the Parsippany PAL putting him an ideal position to gain the support needed for access to kids and fields.
