Youth Saturday Flag Rugby @ Ridgewood 9:00am
Saturday, 06/27/09
teams: Ridgewood 'til 10:30am at Brookside Field
This Saturday June 27 will be home at Brookside Field in Ridgewood (the original Away Game has been moved to July 18 so we will scrimmage instead). We will start at 9 AM and go until 10:30 AM. Please let us know if you will be there this Saturday. Parents are welcome but not required to stay. Gear: The shorts have arrived and are ready to be picked up at Irish Eyes: 1 Cottage Place (corner of Ridgewood Avenue across from movie theatre) Ridgewood, NJ 07450 Phone: 201.445.8585 Irish Eyes will have a list of those that have registered and paid (Gene Callahan is our contact person). The cost of the shorts are covered in your registration fee. Please pick them up before Saturday June 27 so you can wear them that day. The flags velcro directly to the shorts so that is why they are important. We will provide team jerseys for the games. Please wear you white RAY’s t-shirt to the game. If you recently registered, we will get your t-shirt on Saturday. Additional Info: For those of you that are new to rugby, don’t worry about not having played before. You will pick it up quickly and begin having fun right away. We look forward to seeing you Saturday. Don’t forget to bring water and wear cleats, the shorts, and a t-shirt. All Events Rain or Shine.
The RAY's program, now in its 5th year, is a fun and competitive flag rugby program that teaches the basics of rugby in a game environment. It is non-contact, flag rugby and is for both boys and girls ages 6-14.
The sessions are consecutive Saturday mornings starting June 27 and running through the end of year Tournament on July 25. We go from 9-11 AM to avoid the heat of the day. There is no requirement to come every week as we understand vacations and other commitments.
Rugby is the fastest growing youth sports in the country. While Rugby has long had a presence at college campuses around the country, the last few years have seen tremendous growth at the high school and collegiate level. Programs have grown to varsity status, facilities have been developed, and colleges such as Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn State, Stanford, and Cal Berkley now actively recruit student-athletes for their rugby programs.
