The Bruins return to Knollwood Elementary for the second week in a row to face the Panthers again and Morristown and Montville as the Morris Youth Rugby 2009 Summer Season continues with Week III.
Let's hope the Bruins and the Panthers left it all on the field as week III gets under way.
Montville Eagles Team
We began the sunny day yesterday with 13 players and divided them up to make two teams with one player added from team number one. Both Eagles teams were successful in winning both of their scheduled games, a four game sweep! Way to go Eagles ruggers! We passed the ball consistently to space and held the ball instead of making panic passes. We took advantage of the other teams mistakes, plus matched up player to player on defense and only were beat a few times around the ends (move your feet ruggers).
A few of our newer players contributed nicely to the games, most notably young David Slade who kicked a bunch of conversions, new rugger Terry Cantwell who scored several trys by keeping out into space, and new rugger Alec Vigil who also scored a try or two, used his speed to move the ball and set-up other players. Way to get into the mix guys.
I am impressed by the way the teams played together yesterday. We did a better job this week of moving our defensive line together front to back and side to side (probably because I kept threatening to replace any player who did not move up as a team and replace them with some of our other players who are always looking for more playing time). We need to work on our scrums, kick-offs, better placement of passes and getting set-up quicker.
